The Tegernseer Mountain Hut is located 1650m above sea level, enthroned in the mountain pass between two peaks called Roß- and Buchstein. Due to the exciting location it is a favoured destination for many adventurers. Every year, the boldest hikers and climbers pay a visit to the Bavarian Alps in search of action, fun and new challenges.
Indeed, the environment of the alpine cabin is a paradise for climbers, both – for beginners and experts. More than 90 routes in the finest reef limestone open up to the so-called eagle’s nest. Also for hiking, there are several routes along the mountain pass, all quite steep and demanding but conquerable for anybody with the hint of an edge.
No matter, whether you spend two or six hours, if you take the mountain bike or go by foot. It also won’t matter whether you climbed up the mountain or rather stumbled, or if you went up cursing the trail or took it at ease – the breathtaking panorama view is worth any bottleneck you eventually went through upon the path. From the eagle nest you look over the entire Karwendel and have an amazing view on Germany’s highest mountain Zugspitze.
Take an extensive break over here and get some lunch or Jausen – how the Bavarian and Austrian mountain heroes like to call it. Kasspatzen, Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn are the fancied meals but careful, you might be forced to roll down the hill afterwards, cause you are not able to walk anymore!
Nevertheless, just in case you couldn’t stop yourself from eating too much or you just cannot get enough from the mountains, there is an option to stay overnight as well. Mountain heroes and adventurers can stay in the night camp with sleeping backs, there is space for about 40 people up here. No luxury beds, however, one of the most romantic sunsets you will ever get to see in the Alps.
