You will hardly believe your eyes when you arrive here. At 1,310 feet elevation and shaken from the taxi ride the first thing you will see are lush mountain meadows, white sheets fluttering in the wind, and quite possibly Johanna and Urban von Klebelsberg awaiting you at their door of Guesthouse Briol with fruit brandy in their hand.
Only 20 rooms are available and none with a key. After all, you feel like you are amongst friends here, the bathroom is shared and in the evening you sit together at dinner. The atmosphere is warm, the interior is pure:
Most beautiful simple wooden furniture, starched white linen and a color speckled vase with colorful wildflowers – and the beautiful landscape around the house. In Briol one focuses on the essential, enjoying the silence and the summer, jumping in the pool or looking for a place to write, read and dream.
Some guests have been coming for three generations and all with a great sense of less, which is much more.
During the day you can go hiking on steep trails to waterfalls or hike up to Rittnerhorn. Some return back half way in order not to miss the legendary cake buffet with buckwheat cake, apple strudel and plum treats. Even visitors who do not stay at Briol can enjoy the cake and also the lunch with the trio of dumplings which is among the best in South Tyrol.
