LIVE IN MATM
NOV & DEC 2015 in VERONA, BASEL & VIENNA
Here’s an almost philosophical question: Is silence the calmest acoustic condition there is? Calmness the most silent one? There’s a very practical answer. It was created in the year 2001 by two young Norwegians hailing from the rain-city of Bergen. 2548 millimetres of rain come down in Bergen every year. And Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambaek Boe have used this very 2.5 metres of water deep year to create a very special album. With the calmness of the steady rain and the waves on the pier, with shyly shuffling acoustic guitars and all the time in the world. Its name is „Quiet Is The New Loud“; it caused an uproar comparable to the sound of a full blown metal-band and proved: No, the most silent and calmative acoustic condition comes to life when two skillful people, at best Kings of Convenience – that’s the name of this duo – take up their guitars and weave together the most elaborate chords.
Of course there were brass parts, violins and bossanova rhythms on „Quiet Is The New Loud“, along with carefully told stories of loss, travel and broken love affairs. But the (intended) revolutionary conclusion was and is: Nothing hits as hard as the complete acoustic honesty. Right in the middle of the fading techno-hype, back then.
All of that happened some 15 years ago. Especially Erlend Øye has grown to a leading jack of all trades in the Middle-European music scene. Electro-DJ, (ex-)indie star with Whitest Boy Alive, reggae-rogue… That’s what Øye is today. But that „Quiet Is The New Loud“, the intimate calmness in the musical interaction with his (at the very least) congenial compagnon Eirik Glambaek Boe and the innocent early days with Kings of Convenience still mean a lot – that’s what the duo reassures this coming winter:
Kings of Convenience are going to continue their tour in honour of „Quiet Is The New Loud“. The two of them are gonna play the album in full length followed by an on-stage interview. Cause it seems that this special insight connected to the overwhelming calmness has still not completely been come to terms with. It’s gonna be a great evening for the lovers of acoustic music. And of nordic winter rain.
As for shows in MATM, Kings of Convenience are gonna stop in Verona, Basel & Vienna and we are happy to give away 1×2 tickets for the show in Vienna.
