LIVE IN MUNICH
17. NOV 2015 AT FREIHEIZ
There’s music to go out to – to storm the streets and chase neon lights and subway-trains. And then there’s music to remain in armchairs and beds. Not necessarily, but maybe even sit on a green sofa and watch the dust falling in that evening light. Keeping it slow and cozy.
What applies to the songs of Beach House is more than evident: There’s few sounds that fit so perfectly as musical backdrop for the elliptic tracks birds on the autumn sky would draw as the songs of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally. The softly vinylic winching of the synths, the slow-motion-twinkling of the guitars, the raspy vocals (and all that) shake up pillows for tired memory-filled heads and ears.
So it comes as a somewhat big surprise that Beach House themselves recently left the golden rule of „one-foot-in-front-of-the-other“: There had been just three albums in five years in that wonderful wrinkled super-8-sound – until a few days ago. So far, it was always impossible to lose track of Beach House: Yes, really, „Teen Dream“, that big debut, the band performed in Europe’s small clubs back in 2010, 5 years ago.
2015 Beach House took a little sprint. Their newest effort „Depression Cherry“ got followed up only weeks later by „Thank Your Lucky Stars“. A lot of material to be listened to slowly.
The good news is: Beach House don’t take any snapshots. „Thank Your Lucky Stars“ may be even the stronger collection of songs. The electronics glitter a bit more determinedly, and Legrand sings „It’s your life. Do you right. Give them love“.
Which sounds like a good plan. Along with this one: To see Beach House live this fall and carry home a little package of calmness, the band plays live in Munich and Lausanne.
