LIVE IN MUNICH

OCTOBER 8TH AT ALTE KONGRESSHALLE

One of historiography’s iron rules says: Whatever just happened – you’ll only understand it once it has passed for quite some time. Of course, there’s a second one, urging you to keep away from all too big words. But to drop the following one might be legitimate. It’s just about music, however:

Here they come: If big, commonly respected heroes wouldn’t be so rare in music in the times of internet – Erlend Øye surely would be one.

Don’t think so? Okay. But this Norwegian with his trademark glasses has been one of the artists, that have influenced a whole generation’s approach to modern pop music. And this Øye-fied generation maybe didn’t even grasp these extraordinary merits. Fact is: Øye has – together with his compagnon Eirik Glambek Boe and the Kings of Convenience – started the „New Acoustic Movement“. When louder was equal to better, he reanimated the dusty acoustic guitar. Later, as Berliner-by-choice, he introduced Indie and Irony to the electronic scene. And later on, with Whitest Boy Alive‘s Indie-Funk, he took the most obdurate guys to the dancefloor. All of that started veritable musical trends. Kudos!

However: Now, that we write the year 2014 AD, Kings of Convenience are on hiatus, Whitest Boy Alive have split up and Berlin’s electronical music scene is starving. Nevermind: Erlend Øye has found a new musical focus. This time, it’s reggae.

On his new album „Legao“, he mixes his chilly Norwegian-style singing with sunny rhythms. Philosophical relationship analysis with feel-good-sounds. That is, most likely, more of a surprising sound experiment that an epochal piece of work. But nonetheless, when it comes to persistent emotional effects, there’s nothing better than coming straight out through the back-door – to put it with a German saying. And a cultural clash, performed as nonchalant as this one, will definitely find its epigones.

Be sure that watching this mixture live on stage will be an experience of its own. On October 8th, Øye will come to Munich. And, as chance and the local promoter want it, this special gig is gonna take place at Alte Kongresshalle – a restaurated vintage 60s location, that will make the perfect nerdy framework for the evening’s nerdy protagonist.
