Tannerhof
Disconnect From Daily Life

MOUNTAINS | Bavaria

Since the beginning of the 20th century, people have been enjoying themselves at Tannerhof – taking baths in the mountain grotto, doing gymnastics in the open air and in cozy log cabins that are scattered over the hillside.

Today, the sanatorium has turned into an “organic hotel” offering wellness, therapeutic fasting, yoga, pilates and sauna sessions in its idyllic surroundings. Upon entering the grounds you are welcomed by sheep with Medici’s faces; Lamas rescued from the slaughterhouse graze peacefully between the main building and the alpine huts. In addition to these huts, four award-winning three-story Lufthuetten (air huts) , that can be seen from far away, have been added.

To disconnect and unwind from daily life is Tannerhof’s device: To reconnect with yourself and treat and heal yourself. You can do so joining arts therapy painting classes, reading art publications and books about Berlin’s Prinzessinnengärten (princess’ gardens) in front of the fireplace, enjoying organic meals or fasting. Meals are served in seperate rooms for that matter. You would not want to confront guests who are fasting and sipping on their broth close to the fireplace with an opulent breakfast of different egg dishes, whole grain bread, cereal and fruit.

However, this does not mean the atmosphere is grim. A photograph of Helmut Schmidt enjoying a cigarette over the bar is the perfect representation of how relaxed it is here. The caption says: “Everything was better in the good old days.”

Except for the Tannerhof’s cultural program: Today they publish an interesting in-house magazine and you can join singer-songwriter evenings featuring local talents.
