LIVE IN MUNICH
OCT 16, 2014 AT THEATERFABRIK

To quote Wikipedia: „The term nostalgia describes a sentimentality for the past (…) These recollections of our past are usually important events, people we care about, and places where we have spent time. Music and weather can be strong triggers of nostalgia.”

James Vincent McMorrow’s music is all about nostalgia. Songs like „We Don’t Eat“ or „Cavalier“ featuring the lines „I remember my first love“ sung so pure and vulnerable inspire moments of quiet reflection. About love, about fear, about fear in love, about the valley and the mountain and the sunrise, about transformation and trust. Looking past the emotional abstractness, listeners can find themselves in these songs and fill the blanks with their own stories. A beautiful connection. It takes a lot of art, and talent, to build this kind of musical intimacy; the cathedral-style harmonies and epic, orchestral instrumentation, that McMorrow is so famous for.

McMorrow’s debut album ‘Early In The Morning’ was the formative sounds of a songwriter: “I’m so proud of that album, but I never longed to be a guy with a guitar. You play these songs live as best you can, and suddenly you’re a Folk musician.“

Lush and lonesome are both music and recording location of McMorrow’s sophomore album ‚Post Tropical‘. The recording took place on a pecan farm half a mile from the Mexican border – which the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House, Animal Collective and At The Drive In have all called home at one point. McMorrow went, wrote, produced himself and played almost every instrument by himself.

“For me, ‘Post Tropical’ evokes a style of music without you having a clue what it sounds like. It’s warm and familiar, but there’s something there that’s maybe not quite what you think it is. I just wanted to make the most beautiful thing that I could imagine. And that was it.”

Now if you are interested in experiencing this one of a kind talent, we are giving away 1 x 2 tickets for the show in Munich at Theaterfabrik on Oct 16, 2014! Just email win@munichandthemountains.com with the subject line “My First Love” by October 10, 2014 6pm and we’ll add your name to the guestlist!
