LIVE IN MUNICH
1. NOV 2015 AT STROM
Oftentimes, our favorite bands function like our friendships. We see them here and there, share stories, get close. Then life happens, and you lose touch for a while. And when you finally meet up again, you’ll both be just a little bit different. You’ll both have grown, and they will have new stories to tell you in the same voice that made you love them in the first place.
Just like Vessels from Leeds, for example: In 2005, Tom Evans and co. had started to write great post-rock-songs; wide sounds made from neatly layered guitar- and drum-recordings that piled themselves up to acoustic mountains. Clear cut formations in front of a stormy sky. And always the majestic view from the summit. To stay in the alps-metaphor for this once.
Then, in 2011, the brits left for a while. When they returned this year, the guitars had gone. Instead there’s electronic sounds glittering now.
The knowledge of the way up to the mountain tops is still there, in the musicians’ heads and in the music they make. But where it was once was the clouds that floated across the horizon, it’s now the lights of the mirror balls. And the wideness is to be found inside oneself: In the movement on the dancefloor, in line with the melancholic melodies and the swiftly dragging loops. But the best thing is: Vessels’ music still exceeds the borders of the usual. Without losing sight of the beauty in harmonies.
Vessels are gonna repeat their leap from the rough guitar-wilderness to urban electronic dolorousness in several live concerts in November – including three evenings near the Alps: In Munich on November 1st, in Bolzano on the 2nd, in Segrate near Milan on the 3rd. Maybe just the perfect choice to come back to city life after a trip to the mountains.
