Have you ever seen an owner of an ice cream parlour, who is constantly pinching from his own ice cream? We have found him: in the Gelateria Bologna in Mori, located in the north-east of Lake Garda. It is understandable, we have rarely tasted such fantastic ice cream. This Gelateria is an absolute must for ice cream lovers.
The art of making ice cream has been in the family Castellari for over 40 years. Osvaldo Castellari’s father first started selling ice-cream cones; back then in the Astra cinema. Meanwhile, the Gelateria has moved to a small villa, built in the 1920’s, which includes a lavish terrace.
Osvaldo Castellari not only develops the ice cream recipes, but lovingly takes care of the ingredients too. He roasts the pistachios himself, so that everything tastes perfectly. When talking about his ice cream he is full of passion, passing around samples from an abundance of pots with small plastic spoons.
The pistachio ice cream melts away on your tongue, the texture is unbeatable. It tastes intense, fresh, aromatic, delicate, round and crisp! Apart from the pistachio ice cream, our favourites were the Mille Foglie, Fior di Latte and Fragola. Even if you plan to travel further south, the Gelateria Bologna is well worth the short detour from the motorway for an ice cream to go or the speciality of the house: the sundae ‘Velo’.
